Lou Rau hopes it will be comeback time for his Beal City Aggies.
The Aggies are coming off a loss to Clare 26-18 last week and are now 1-1.
Clare led 7-0 after its first drive of the game on a 24-yard pass from Brent Luplow to Aaron Haynak with Hunter Ruby booting the extra point. Tracey Pohl’s 58-yard interception return led to a 1-yard scoring run by Beal City’s Stone Beckwith for a 7-6 game.
In the third quarter, Ty Rollin came up with an interception and returned it to the Clare 42. Ten plays later, when it was fourth-and-one at the Clare 3-yard line, Beckwith scored for a 3-yard run to make it 14-12. Kevin Strauss returned a blocked punt for a touchdown to make it 20-18. But the Aggies would come no closer.
“We gave them too many big plays,” Rau said. “They had some huge plays that were backbreakers even though we fought back.”
Beal City has won nine straight league titles.
