Dow High started off the 2020 boys season in a successful fashion with a 5-4 effort vs Troy Athens and 7-3 effort vs Grand Blanc. However, as the state uses only the top 4 singles and doubles, HH Dow finished the day 1-0-1. Dow next plays in the Dow Quad at the tennis center on Tuesday, August 25th vs Gibraltor Carlson and Bay City Western.
Coach Terry Schwartzkopf:
“The day was full of ups and downs, but in the end, it was a nice way to begin the season. In truth, it was just nice to begin the season given all the uncertainty. We seem to be a deep and talented team with an incredible ceiling…we just have to start working on getting there. In truth, we are very young.
“However, that is why I am so impressed with today’s outcome. We have not trained these boys yet. We have not discussed strategies nor have we worked on their game. We have been playing matches and working on figuring out a roster since day one. Thus, what they did today was based on pure natural talent and instinct. We lost these last year. Troy Athens annihilated us last year. This year, we finished on top. I can’t wait to see what we look like by the end of the season.”
Aaron Li won at No. 4 singles. Winners in doubles were Calebv Qiu and Zakey El Nachef (No. 1), Thomas Ladwin and Bobo Qiu at No. 2, Logan Yu and Roofy Elsaadany at No. 3, Marshall McGaugh and Iden Tannis at No. 4 and Tyler Wood and Alex Kuo at No. 5.
