The Eagles hosted Caro, the GTC West champs, in a highly competitive non-league contest in this final week of the regular season. The Tigers were every bit as good as their 17-1 record indicated. Freshman Adelyn Moore, who finished with 17 points, led Caro early with 11 points before the break and helped stake the Tigers to a two-point lead heading into the locker room.
The Eagles’ offense started clicking in the 3rd quarter, as freshman Lexi Boyke took over and scored 12 of her game-high 21 points in the 2nd half. Boyke filled up the stat sheet as she finished with 6 boards, 3 steals, and 3 blocked shots. In addition, junior Laney Soulliere played an outstanding game on both ends of the court, chipping in with 12 points of her own, including a pair of threes, while also holding Moore to just 6 second half points behind a strong defensive effort. Sophomore Zoey Persails added 9 points, seven of which came after the break, and the Eagles were able to keep the lead between 7-10 points for much of the final quarter.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 14-5 on the season as they finish up the regular season on Friday night with a home game against Alma. Next week, the Eagles play in the Division 2 district at Clio. The Eagles will take on the host Mustangs at 7 PM on Monday night.
