Coleman coach Clark Swerdan:
It was a great overall team effort. Connor broke the unofficial school scoring record (Jarid Walton 950 pts, graduated 2015) with 7:27 to play in the 2nd quarter, on a free throw (his 11th point of the game). He is now up 979 career points. He almost broke the unofficial single game scoring record (Bob Lubs 40 in 1956).
It’s been a real honor coaching Connor. He’s a great kid and the hardest worker I’ve been around. We are now 7-5 (6-3 in MSAC). We host Montabella next Wednesday.
Coleman JV also won 54-41. Ayden Rhule has 17 pts, Ty Klopf had 11 & Conner Schrank had 10 pts. Coleman JV is now 9-2.
We were sluggish in the first half, down 14-10 when Connor broke the school record (he had our first 12 pts). We then went on a nice 20-6 run to go up 10 (30-20). We were up 8 at the half. We had a lot of good looks, but they weren’t falling. I told the guys at half that I knew we’d blow the game wide open in the second half. We did just that. We opened the half on a 18-4 run and never looked back.
“All 10 of our players scored tonight, the first time all year! The guys were very unselfish too, as we had a season high 20 assists. The guys were extremely happy for Connor tonight! It was a great game to be apart of. Ashley played us tough. They only had six guys) and didn’t quit until the final whistle.”
