Big Rapids traveled to Muskegon today to face off against Lakes 8 Conference rival Western Michigan Christian. The lady Cardinals came away with a 6-2 victory.
“I was really happy with our team’s play today. In particular, our doubles really stepped it up and had a sweep”. Sara Daniels / Chloe Mathewson at #1 doubles and Ally Sims / Karlie Hughes had routine straight sets wins.
#2 and #3 doubles were the last matches on and both were able to pull out the win in 3 sets. At #3 doubles, Tyler Brown / Gemma Kailing split the first two sets in tiebreaks and were able to take the third set 6-2. “I was especially impressed with their mental toughness in the third set. At 1-1 they were down 15-40 and managed to come back and take that game after several deuces. They finished out the match winning 4 of the last 5 games.”
“Melanie Johnson / Corina Kailing also played tough today at #2 doubles. They lost the fist set 6-1 and were able to regroup and take the final two sets 4 & 4”.
The Cardinals travel to Petoskey on Friday to play a quad with Petoskey, Alpena and Traverse City Saint Francis.
