Mount Pleasant has two outstanding football players with quarterback Jackson Ostrowsky and tight end/defensive end Tyler Huenemann, and Oiler coach Jason McIntyre is ecstatic with the efforts of both players so far this season.
McIntyre’s team is off to a 5-0 start and has outscored its five opponents 181-22.
“Jackson’s having a great year,” McIntyre said. “He’s one of the best leaders I’ve had in a long time. He’s a competitor. He’s a coach’s son. This is his third year starting as a varsity quarterback. He didn’t start for us but the year before that he started at Marquette. He had a lot of football experience. Whether it’s with his feet or with his arm, he’s willing to do whatever it takes to win. He loves to win. If it involves handing the ball off or making the right call, he’s happy to do that. If he has to throw the ball to win the game, he’ll do that.
“The other night was the first time when the other team made it a little difficult for us to run the ball. It gave us the passing game and he threw for 242 yards.”
The Oilers went on to beat Bay City Western 42-0.
“He’s playing safety for us too,” McIntyre said. “He’s a real competitive athlete who wants to win and he’ll do whatever it takes to do that .”
Ostrowsky, as a passer “has a real good understanding of defenses in football,” McIntyre said. “He’s a coach’s kid. He has a sense of knowledge about football He understands what we’re we’re trying to go with our passing game. He has a strong arm.”
Ostrowsky, on defense, “has a lot of confidence so he seems to have a little break on the ball,” McIntyre said.
Huenemann is at defensive end and tight end. He is only a junior but is already drawing looks from Division 1 schools and has one offer.
“He’s a big strong kid with good feet,” McIntyre said. “He’s 6-3, 250 pounds and he can run. He’s strong and he’s hard to block. He has great hands and great feet. He had two catches for 75 yards (against Western) and one of them was a 40-yard screen pass. It’s not often you see a guy 6-3, 250 pounds catch a pass and out-run everybody. He’s a good blocker, which we like at tight end, obviously.”
