Freeland cross country coach George Drown has been impressed with the efforts this season of Madison O’Deay.
“She is a senior captain for me on Freeland’s girls cross-country team. She is a 4-year varsity runner. She has raced in 3 meets already, (Hemlock Classic Invite, Chip Hills Invite, and Clare Invite), and medaled in all of them.
“Above that she has run exponentially faster in each of the meets than she did a year ago. She has already bettered her career best time of 22:12 by 22 seconds running 21:50 at our last meet. Madison is the No. 3 runner on a very young and talented women’s cross-country team. Madi’s leadership and dedication to the sport is bar none. She motivates and encourages her teammates in practice and during competition. With her leadership we are hoping to break the girls 5 year drought from qualifying for the MHSAA finals as a team and their first year qualifying as a Division 2 school. Last time the girls qualified they were a Division 3 school in 2013.
