Fowler’s girls track and field program thrives on winning state titles.
Coach Jill Feldpaush’s team finished ahead of Pittsford to win another title this season in Division 4’s state meet on June 2 at Hudsonville. Fowler also won in 2011, 2012 and 2016 and took second place in 2009, 2010, 2015 and 2017.
When Fowler was in Class D, it won five state titles and were runners-up four times. This season, the Eagles scored 87 points in the state meet while Pittsford was second at 55.5. It’s the biggest stretch of points Fowler has ever won a state title by.
“This was our No. 1 goal all season long, to win the state meet,” Feldpausch said. “We needed everyone to be healthy and be able to run and keep working toward their goals. It’s not where you are in March but where you are on June 2. The girls continued to PR, especially in the month of May to get to where we were in the state meet.”
Alyssa Vandegriff won the 100 meter hurdles (15.56) while Ciera Weber placed fourth and Sadie Weber placed sixth.
Morgan George placed fifth in the 800 meter run (2:24.83); Vandegriff placed fifth in the 300 meter hurdles (47.02);
the biggest factor for Fowler’s success was winning all four relays. Fowler’s relay teams included McKenzie Koenigsknecht, Kaitlyn Langin, Weber and Sidney Horak in the 4×100, Shannon Schmitz, Koenigknecht, Horak and Langin in the 4×200, McKenzie and Josie Koenigsknecht, Grace Boak and Morgan George in the 4×400 and Josie Koenigsknecht, Taryn Schafer, Boak and George in the 4×800 relay.
Vandegriff also won the high jump (5-5.8) with a school record and Weber won the pole vault (10-3).
“Ciera is a senior and has improved tremendously well,” Feldpausch said. ‘She broke the school pole vault record multiple times. She placed first in the hurdles for the first time at the state finals.
“It was an incredible day to win all four relays. We have found the right people to run the relays. We preach handoffs.”
Fowler graduated seven seniors.
“But we have a great team coming back,” Feldpausch said.
