Chippewa Hills finished the regular football season at 7-2 to qualify for the playoffs again and senior David Spedowski has played no small role in that success.
‘Team-wise we’re doing pretty good,” he said. “We’ve had two losses. I think we’re a better team because of those losses. We’ve got some sophomores who have stepped up to the task. We’re pretty good there.
“Offensively, Seth McKenzie, Cade Schafer and Ty Jose have stepped up a lot.”
As for his season, “it’s not as good as last year. I missed three games because of (ankle) injuries. Other than that I’ve had a pretty good season. I had a good game against Grant and Newaygo.”
Spedowski leads the team in rushing yards and is second in tackles.
His position, “depends on the team we play,” he said. “If they pass the ball a lot, I’m at defensive back. If they run the ball a lot, I’m at linebacker.”
His strength is stopping the outside run, Spedowski indicated.
Spedowski is hopeful the Warriors can enjoy plenty of postseason success.
“We’d like to win the district title this year,” he said. “We hope we get a good draw and then we’ll go from there.”
The Warriors will play at Clare in the first round of districts. The winner plays either Reed City or Grayling for the district title.
Spedowski has been a key member of the Chippewa Hills wrestling team in past seasons.
“I’ve had a couple of injuries I need to heal up for because I want to play college football,” he said. “I may not start wrestling until after Christmas so I can rest my body.”
