Senior strong safety Caleb Hurt has been getting the job done for Breckenridge’s football team this season
“He’s had a pretty good season this year,” Huskies coach Kris Robinson said. “Two weeks ago against Merrill, he had 21 tackles and a pick six, which was impressive. He’s a constant for us on the defensive side of the ball.”
Hurt had, after eight weeks of action, 345 yards on 52 rushing attempts and five touchdowns, plus seven catches for 263 yards and two touchdowns.
Hurt rotates at wing back and running back for the Huskies.
We lost our starting running back two weeks and filled in there and did a great job,” Robinson said. “He has the speed-quickness. He’s very elusive but has a firm handle on blocking and schemes.”
But defense has been his strength with 102 tackles, two sacks and two interceptions including the 40-yard pick 6. It’s his second season starting on the varsity for Breckenridge.
“He’s improved a great deal,” Robinson said. “I think he’s improved a great deal. He worked really hard in the weight room this year. He also starts on the offensive side of the ball for us. He’s got a phenomenal work ethic. He’s a joy to have on our team.”
Robinson continues to be impressed with Hurt’s gifts on that side of the football.
“He’s got great speed and is one of our faster kids,” Robinson said. “He tackles extremely well. He’s a good sure tackler. He sets up the defense for us. He makes sure the secondary is in the right place. He moves all over the field on defense for us.”
Hurt also plays basketball and runs track.
“He’s pretty good at all of them,” Robinson said. “He’s on the 4×100 last year that made it to the state meet. I had him my weightlifting class. He’s always in there. I wish I had more players like him.”
