Dallas O’Green is putting together, what he hopes will be, another state championship effort for Carson City-Crystal’s wrestling team.
As a freshman, he was 119 pounds. As a sophomore and junior, he was 125. He’s at 130 pounds this season. Being at 130 hasn’t proven to be a tougher class so far, he said.
He has won his first 29 matches this season. He bumped up to 152 earlier in the season and had a close decision. “I think I’ve improved a lot more than last year,” O’Green said. “I’m more mature. Now that I’ve won a state title, I feel like they’re trying to gun for me. I have to work harder.”
He said he’s hungry for another title and isn’t content with just having won a one last season. “Hopefully I can do better in the state finals than I did last year,” he said.
O’Green expects to face some stiff competition in his bid for another title. “You have to take it one match at a time,” he said. “You can’t go into the match nervous. If you lose, you lose; if you win, you win.”
O’Green takes pride in his techniques. “You have to know how to get out of trouble,” he said.
He has been pushing his teammates hard and is looking to be a leader on a team that has a lot of young wrestlers. O’Green is confident that his team can do well in the postseason, even though it has “ some freshmen in the lineup. It’s tougher.”
O’Green has been wrestling for 15 years. He has been thinking about college wrestling but is undecided of his plans. “I want to pursue my career with four years of college,” he said. “I don’t know which college yet.”
