The Alma girls track team has been handling the spring weather just fine.

In mid April, the girls won over Chesaning, 97-30. Sophomores Madison Doolittle and Tayla Guerrero and freshman Morgan Johnson led the way, winning all four of their events.  Sophomore Anna Johnston added three wins for the Panthers.  On the boys’ side, senior Chase Austin sparked the team, as he swept the hurdle events.

On April 25, Alma had a key performance in the Warrior Invitational at Chippewa Hills. Guerrero was fourth in the 100-meter dash at 13.653 seconds. Johnston was fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.38. Doolittle was third in the 100-meter hurdles in 17:52 and third in the 300-meter hurdles in 51.15.

Elizabeth Gotaas was 10th in the 1,600-meter run in 6:03.48 and was ninth in the 3,200-meter run in 13:14.19. The foursome of Johnston, Doolittle, Guerrero, and Mariah Castillo was third in the 4×100 relay in 53.92 seconds. The foursome of Alyx Wesley, Castillo, Guerrero, and Doolittle was second in the 4×400 relay in 4:32.09.

Marissa Corneo was eighth in the shot put at 28’1″ and seventh in the discus at 84’8″. Guerrero was fifth in the long jump at 13’4″.

 

Golf

Cody Yates has gotten off to a strong start for Alma coach JT Cleveland’s boys’ golf team this season. He had a strong performance at the Panther Invitational in mid April. Alma was third in a 15-team field. Houghton Lake took first and Butternut Homeschool placed second.

Yates, a junior, took fifth place overall with 83. Brock Martin, a sophomore, was Alma’s No. 2 golfer with 94.

 

Tennis

Isabella Rivera, a senior, is the No. 1 singles player for Alma. She has started out 2-3, including a victory over Ithaca.
