Hello Sports Fans! It’s another great day at Sports Scene.
Ok, guys and gals, I have a confession. It was I who was responsible for Deflategate. I did it. I am responsible for the biggest non-issue story ever in the history of the NFL. Yep, I was the one who let the air out of the footballs before the AFC championship game between New England and Indianapolis.
Is it me, or is it that every time New England happens to make the Super Bowl (six times in the Tom Brady Era) that some non-game issue hovers over the Superbowl? Is it me, or am I just reading too much into this, but is Deflategate just another black eye on the game, like the Ray Rice incident and all of the other domestic violence issues that have surrounded the league this past season?
The NFL is a billion dollar industry that is trying to figure out who let the air out of the balls. I mean, seriosly, who cares already? The biggest sporting event in the world is upon us, and we are talking about balls. What is wrong with this picture?
Anyhow, in less than a month we will engage at our annual cocktail parties in Battle Creek and at the Palace of Auburn Hills, where the top wrestlers in the state earn the right to be called state champions. For me, it’s the biggest week of the year. This year marks the 30th anniversary of when I was crowned a state champion. Wow…I can’t believe it has been that long ago. Good luck to all of the area wrestlers who are chasing glory against the best the sport has to offer. There is nothing like being called a state champion.
Finally, take the time to read about how Carson City-Crystal winter sports teams have enjoyed success in this month’s issue of Sports Scene. I’m highly impressed with the turnaround that the Eagles have gone through in recent years. It’s stories like this that are why Sports Scene continues to be your premier news source for high school sports in Michigan.
