Nashville may well be a country town, but the Alma Scots “rocked it out” at the Gator Boots Duals on Saturday. The No. 22 Scots – as promised – will be climbing in those rankings soon, as the Proud Plaid went 4-0 with victories over #8 Loras, #18 Johnson and Wales, Simpson and Washington & Lee.

“We have been talking about coming together better as a team and pulling for one another. Today the guys did just that,” said head coach Todd Hibbs. “To see them all standing and gathered around the mat screaming out the near fall points when Maresh put us over top was outstanding.”

Maresh (Trevor) and Jamie Jakes both went 4-0 on the day, while senior Matt Tuttle went 3-0 in his return to the Scot lineup.

“There were so many gutsy moments today,” said Hibbs. “Caleb Huff with that takedown on all heart and guts in the Loras match, Tuttle lifting us up on less than a week’s practice and so many other guys coming through when we really needed them.”

The only other undefeated team at the Boots Duals was Heidelberg – a squad that the Scots already defeated this year.

“We still have things to work on in order to win our biggest matches in the second term, but today was a tremendous team effort and we are getting closer to where we want to be,” said associate head coach Jeremiah Tobias.

The Scots will next be in action at the Spartan Mat Classic on January 10 at Manchester University. And then on January 15, Alma will host Olivet College in the annual rivalry dual between the two MIAA schools. Stay tuned for coming details on a rivalry night that will include a winter barbecue, live music and a whole lot more.
