Season story: The Yellowjackets were Division 4 state runners-up last season and bowled a state record 1,292 game Feb. 1 at Riverwood Lanes. The team graduated 4 of the 6 bowlers from last season and are very young but still have talent with keglers like Jared Baublitz, Blake Gulick, and Dylan Macha.
The Central Montcalm boys’ basketball file
Season story: Right now, the Central Montcalm team has been showing signs of being a high-shooting team. In an 83-56 win over Evart, Lane Ledford had the hot hand with 38 points, including four three-pointers, and going 10 for 10 in free throws. But the Hornets have other weapons besides Ledford, including Jason Barnwell, who had two three-pointers and 15 total points. Jesse Hoffman also had 15 points.
The Carson City-Crystal girls’ basketball file
Season story: An early December victory over Vestaburg, 58-11, showed that the Eagles could be flying high this season. They have several girls who can score points, including Regan Heckman with 15, Madi Weese with 14, and Sara McAlvey with 13. Mikayla Duflo should also be a strong scorer this year.
The Alma boys’ basketball file
Season story: The Panthers are coming off a 13-9 season in which they were 9-5 in the TVC Central, and they appear talented enough to make a strong run at first place after winning nine of their last 11 games a year ago. They had a clutch big man in 6-foot-10-inch junior Dylan Carl, who averaged 13 points and 11 rebounds a game last year. Justin Doyle, a 6’3″ guard, averaged 17 points a game late in the season.

Season story: Kenzie Seeley is ready to have a big season for the Panthers. She scored 25 points in a recent 56-32 victory over St. Louis, hitting nine field goals and going 2 for 2 from the charity stripe. Five of her baskets were three-pointers. Tayla Guerrero will also be coming up big for Alma. She had 12 points against St. Louis.

Season story: Despite a 56-32 loss to Alma, the Sharks showed that they have talented players who can do a lot of good things. Those players include Jaelynn Block, who was 6 for 8 in free throws and who hit two field goals for 10 points. Kamrie Fillipiak had the same stats as Block and also netted 10 points. Nicole Koczenasz will have a good season and scored six against Alma. Block also had seven boards.
