The more things change with the Lowell football program, the more things remain the same.
While all-state quarterback Kyler Shurlow has graduated, the Red Arrows are prepared to usher in a new quarterback to carry on the tradition of outstanding signal callers. Junior Ryan Stevens (6’1″, 180 pounds) is more of a traditional passer in the mold of Keith Nichol, and fans are looking forward to seeing what he can do.
Stevens will have some excellent targets in senior tight end Josh Branigan (6’4, 210) and junior wideout Gabe Steed (6’0″, 160).
As always, the Red Arrows will boast a strong, powerful line. Senior Karson Murley (6’1″, 280) anchors the wall and paves the way for senior running back Josh Colegrove, who is a power runner with a burst.
On defense, the team’s tradition of outstanding linebackers will be carried on by juniors Max Dean and Tyler Shurlow (6’0″, 220).
Colegrove will also see plenty of action at defensive end.
Lowell’s strength and depth will be put to the test in the rugged OK White, with Grand Rapids Christian, which boasts a team full of DI and DII college prospects and with perennial powerhouse and long-time rival East Grand Rapids.
