Ovid-Elsie ties Alma 4-4 in girls tennis action on Friday. Emma Phillipson edged to a dramatic victory in No. 2 singles 5-7, 6-6(11-9), 19-17. Ovid-Elsie won in the final three singles classes with Kayla Duckert and Shyler Stehilk prevailing at No. 2, Hayley Ade and Shelby Frink at No. 3 and Natalee Whitford and Joely Johnson at No. 4.
“All the players should be very proud of themselves,” said Ovid Elsie coach Miriah Lintemuth. “They worked hard and we tied with Alma. Emma Phillipson lost the first set, won the second set in a tiebreaker 11-9 and it started to rain so the coaches decided the players would play an ultimate tiebreak going to 10 but have to win by two. Emma won the ultimate tiebreaker 19-17. Shelby Frink also had the chance to play four singles and she won the first set in a tiebreaker 7-3 and lost the last two sets 4-6 and 1-6. This was her first time playing singles.”
