It’s said in boys basketball that it’s tough to beat a good team three times. In football, they say it’s hard to beat a very fine squad twice.

Rockford, unfortunately, found this out Friday night in suffering a tough loss in the district finals, 19-14 to a Hudsonville team that is now 8-3. Hudsonville was 6-3 going into the playoffs.

Rockford was favored to win this game but had a tight game with the Eagles in the regular season, winning only 28-19 at Rockford. Hudsonville was able to turn the tables.

Rockford had opened its season with impressive wins over Utica Eisenhower and Holt, but lost to Muskegon. But the Rams powered to six straight wins to end the regular season.

Rockford ends its season at 9-2. It had blanked Traverse City West 19-0 to open the playoffs.
