Division 3

103 pounds

1. Kanen Storr, Leslie

2. Reiley Brown, Whitehall

3. Kole Krauss, Grand Rapids Catholic Central

4. K.J. Suitor, Swan Valley

5. Jon Martin, Grayling

Prediction: Can you say ‘stacked with freshmen studs?’ That’s what this weight class is. I’d say that Storr is the favorite going in, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see any of the five listed win.

112 pounds

1. Devin Schroder, Grand Rapids Catholic Central

2. Alex Martinez, Ida

Prediction: Schroder is undefeated and has won by major decision or better all but three times this year. That’s a pretty good resume for this stud freshman – pick him!

119 pounds

1. Dakota Ball, Ida

2. Andy Caffrey, Parchment

3. Dominic Forbes, Grand Rapids Catholic Central

4. Johnny Lynch, Chippewa Hills

5. Jerry Fenner, Birch Run

6. Luke Jensen, Allendale

Prediction: This weight class is wide open. Any one of the wrestlers listed can win, so we will have to wait and see who is hot the weekend of the finals.

125 pounds

1. Zach Cooper, Whitehall

2. Brendan O’Connor, Dundee

Prediction: He won a state title at Chippewa Hills last year, he’ll win one at Whitehall this year. I only put O’Connor on this list because he did wrestle Cooper tough at the Tournament of Champions at Goodrich in December.

130 pounds

1. Nate Limmex, Grand Rapids Catholic Central

Prediction: Limmex was an all-stater at Lowell last year as a freshman and moved to Catholic Central this year. After sitting out half the season, he’s been on a tear since returning to the mat. I can’t see anyone beating him.

135 pounds

1. Zehlin Storr, Leslie

Prediction: He was third as a freshman, second last year, and almost won the title on an injured ankle. Storr is on a mission, and who am I to pick against a determined stud? Could be the year that the Storr household has two state championship brackets.

140 pounds

1. Doug Rojem, Dundee

2. Lake Bennett, Birch Run

3. John Weldon, Comstock Park

4. Joe English, Grand Rapids Catholic Central

Prediction: Rojem could have some challengers in the weight class, but I think the one-loss junior gets through and wins a title for the Vikings

145 pounds

1. Devin Skatzka, Richmond

2. Jordon Bennett, Lakewood

3. Johnny Johnson, Otsego

4. Johnny Finney, Bullock Creek

Prediction: Skatzka was a state champion last year, but he moved up two weight classes. Bennett has the talent to win, and he must be motivated after losing in the first round last year. Johnson is a sleeper, but I like Skatzka.

152 pounds

1. Jason Peacock, Chippewa Hills

2. Luke Pahl, Comstock Park

3. Liam Grantham, Dundee

Prediction: This is Peacock’s weight class to lose. He had a disappointing two and out at last year’s state finals; I don’t think that will be the case this year.

160 pounds

1. Steven Sika, Whitehall

2. Todd Olson, Dundee

Prediction: Sika and Olson are the class of this weight class, but I would not be surprised to see either lose. Saying that, I like Olson to win. Dundee wrestlers always shine at The Palace.

171 pounds

1. Liam Widman, Alma

2. Joe Sika, Whitehall

3. Dan Cornish, Capac

Prediction: Widman’s only loss this year was to Sika. I think he gets revenge at the state finals and wins a state title for the Panthers.

189 pounds

1. Collin Beebe, Allendale

2. Dalton Bailey, Houghton Lake

3. Teddy Warren, Dundee

4. Devin Smyth, Williamston

Prediction: Beebe’s older brother Jeff won a state title for the Falcons, so I like the blood line. But Bailey and Warren are just as talented, so this could be a fun weight class to watch.

215 pounds

1. Gage Hutchison, Buchanan

Prediction: Hutchison made it look easy last year in winning a state title at this weight class and will do it again. He is a beast.

285 pounds

1. Josh Capen, Ithaca

2. John Marogen, Dundee

3. Logan Morningstar, Whitehall

Prediction: Capen has won three state football titles at Ithaca, now he brings home an individual state championship in wrestling.
