The Clare Pioneers lost Thursday to Farwell, 50-24. The Pioneers also lost to Roscommon 52-29.
Michael Evers captured a win by fall in the 119 pound weight class for the Pioneers, and then Eric Litke at 152 pounds got things rolling again after his opponent injury defaulted in the third period. With the Pioneers down 34-12, Logan Emery and Brenden Hensley picked up six points apiece for Clare.
Michael Evers started Clare off with a minor decision over Farwell’s Kurt Meister to put Clare on the board, 3-0. Farwell was able to pick up 12 points when Clare had to void the 125 and 130 pound weight classes. The Eagles kept things rolling earning a win by fall at 135, and a win by tech fall at 140, making the match score 23-3.
Dominik Herkel pinned Damien Brown in the first period to put six more on the board for Clare in the 145 pound weight class. Eric Litke wrestled a tough match against Jacob Turner in the 152 pound division, with the final score 6-4 in favor of Farwell. Emery earned more for Clare by pinning Nathan Carlon at 160 pounds. Brandon Ayris also picked up another 6 for the Pioneers after he was voided at 171 pounds. Brenden Hensley lost 9-6. Tyler Orwig went out and pinned Austin Howley in the first period to draw the Pioneers within 2, 29-27. Bob Green lost by fall.
“It was an extremely tough night of wrestling. There were some match-ups that I was really looking forward to seeing, and they never materialized,” said Clare coach Kyle McKay.
