It was a good day for the Breckenridge Huskies at the Division 4 regionals Saturday at the Carson City-Crystal home course.
Both Breckenridge teams took second place, Pewamo-Westphalia won the boys race and Beal City won the girls race.
For Breckenridge’s boys, Kurt Gulick was fourth in 16:46.4, Jesse Corbat 10th in 16:57.2, Kyle Gulick 12th in 16:57.9, Nate Partee 14th in 17:26.3, Austin Brittain 20th in 17:43.3, Jake Partee 28th in 18:05 and Sam Richardson 31st in 18:14.6
“The boys ran great today,” said Breckenridge coach Royce Humm. “We finished second in one of the toughest regionals I’ve ever seen. We had, in my opinion, 6 of the top 10 schools in the state at this regional. For us, it was a battle against one of the other top teams in the state (Pewamo-Westphalia). We have both been ranked inside the top three in the state for the last month.”
For the Breckenridge girls, Kirsten Ollin was first, Rachel Reiber 10th, Dominique Adams 13th, Lindsay Hoard 16th, Sarah Beebe 34th, Hope Davidson 41st and Claire Laurenz 48th in 18:00, 20:43.2, 21:02.7, 21:16.4, 23:04.7, 23:43.9 and 24:26.8.
“The girls ran strong today,” Humm said. “We have had some injuries holding us back and this was the first time back to racing for some of our girls. We were able to run against some of the best teams in the area and we are focused on proving we are a top team in the state next week.”
