The Pewamo-Westphalia boys basketball team overcame a big performance by Arts & Technology Academy of Pontiac sophomore Lewis Lovejoy to come away the Division 3 state championship trophy.
The Pirates downed the Pontiac school 61-57 despite 41 points from the super-sophomore guard.
The state title was the second for Pewamo-Westphalia after the Pirates won the state title in 2019.
Leading the way for the Pirates was a talented senior class that were key in Pewamo-Westphalia compiling a 27-2 record this season. Senior starters Nolan George, Tyler Spitzley, Trent Piggott and Grady Eklund led the way along with senior 6th man Ty Thelen. Eklund paced Pewamo-Westphalia in the title game with 26 points along with nine rebounds and four assists. Pigott added 11 points and 12 rebounds.
