Kevin Gamble of Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart was on the Class D all-state boys basketball team recently announced by the Associated Press. His coach, Pat Theisen, was named coach of the year. The Irish were state quarterfinalists this season. Sacred Heart’s Brooks Hyble was on the honorable mention list.

Ovid-Elsie was 28th in the Division 3 boys swimming and diving state meet in March at Holland. Marshall Gallt was Ovid-Elsie’s only qualifier.

 

“He had been at states the last two years and was an alternate for finals both years,” said O-E coach Karl  Dahlke. “This year he qualified for finals in both his events (200 IM and 100 fly) by dropping 6.28 seconds in the IM (placed 15th) and 2.39 seconds in the fly (14th).  Both set our school records. We hit his taper perfectly.”

 

Alma was 23rd in the Division 3 boys swimming and diving state meet in March at Holland.  Brevan Bender of Alma was fourth in the 100-yard butterfly.

 

St. Johns tied for 20th in the Division 3 boys swimming and diving state meet in March at Holland. Jared Gregory of St. Johns was fourth in the one-meter dive in 400.9 points. “We were very pleased with the final outcome of our season,” said St. Johns coach Kim Brewbaker. “The local paper had picked us to finish in fourth place and we were third in the final standings.”

 

Mason tied for 20th in the Division 3 boys swimming and diving state meet in March at Holland. Corbin Shuler of Mason was eighth in the 100-yard butterfly.

 

Bay City John Glenn was 17th in the Division 3 boys swimming and diving state meet in March at Holland. Logan Carson of John Glenn was fifth in the 50-yard freestyle.

 

Ionia placed 11th in the Division 3 boys swimming and diving state meet in March at Holland. Skyler Fish of Ionia was fifth in the 100-yard freestyle and second in the 100-yard backstroke for Ionia.

 

Saginaw Heritage placed 13th in the Division 2 boys swimming and diving state meet in March at Eastern Michigan University. Logan Yearham and Tyler Miller of Saginaw Heritage were fourth in 58.07 and sixth in 59.74 respectively.

Okemos placed 12th in the Division 2 boys swimming and diving state meet in March at Eastern Michigan University. In the 100-yard butterfly, Ian Polland of Okemos was ninth in 51.41 seconds.

 

“We scored two relays and had six individual scoring swims in the top 16,” said Okemos coach Patrick Saucedo.

 Grand Ledge was 11th in the Division 2 boys swimming and diving state meet at Eastern Michigan University in March. Xinghao Wang of Grand Ledge was first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 55.77 seconds. 

 

Wang was third in the 100-yard butterfly in 50.60 seconds. Senior diver Rob Wilson placed 12th.
