Maddie Breece passed the 1,000-point mark for Breckenridge in February and has helped 5he Huskies have a very competitive season.
The Huskies are 12-8.
‘Overall I think we performed well, as we had some adversity due to the age differences but we overcame that and are performing more as a unit,” Breece said. “I feel like I’ve performed well so far this season. I’ve been consistent, worked hard in practices, and tried to contribute in any way I can to help the team succeed. I’ve also stepped into my role more confidently compared to last season
I feel like I’ve improved a lot, especially in my confidence, communication, and decision-making. I’ve also worked on staying calm under pressure and being more consistent with my fundamentals. My role on the team was to be a reliable and supportive teammate, contribute during games, and bring energy and leadership both on and off the court.
“My role is a little different from last year because I’ve taken on more responsibility and leadership. I’ve grown more confident and now help guide younger teammates while still My mental game has been something I’ve really worked towards improving. Forgetting about past mistakes and moving on and focusing on the next play has helped me tremendously.”
Breece added: “Some of my most memorable moments were when our team overcame challenges and played together as a unit. Winning close games, supporting each other, and seeing our growth throughout the season really stood out to me.”
Breece has high hopes for the rest of the season
“I think the team has met and even exceeded expectations. Despite challenges, we stayed united, improved throughout the season, and showed strong teamwork and resilience,” she said
She is a multi-sport athlete.
“As much as I enjoy volleyball, basketball has always been something I feel I excel in, ever since I was younger,” Breece said. “I love the environment and energy the game of basketball provides. I’m still considering what I plan to do this upcoming spring, but I know I will definitely be spending a lot of time in the gym continuing to work on my skills and, improving my overall game.”
‘Maddie Breece is the first junior in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark. She is only the third girls basketball player in school history to do so,” Breckenridge coach Phil Baldwin said. “She did so in the first minute of the game with a drive on the left side of the court for a lay-up. She only needed one point coming into the night.”
