It was a fabulous regular season for Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart’s girls basketball team, but not exactly the type of postseason the Irish had envisioned.

Coach Damon Brown’s team had finished the regular season with a Mid-State Activities Conference title and, after winning the district, took a 21-3 record into the regional semifinal. But the Irish ended their season with a 45-33 loss to Ubly.

But Brown still enjoyed a memorable season in his 12th year.

“We’re very excited about the outcome of the season,” he said. “The girls worked hard all season. We had a young team this year and we exceeded expectations.”

Top athletes included Delaney Scully, a sophomore point guard.

“She had an amazing year.” Brown said. “She stepped up in a leadership role and increased her scoring. She finished the season averaging 13 points, five rebounds and three assists per game.”

Sophomore Madison Munley “had a strong sophomore campaign,” Brown said. “She is an athletic post player. She finished the year averaging 11 points and six rebounds a game.”

“The lone graduate is Sammy McDonald. “She was a four-year varsity player and developed into a tremendous leader,” said Brown who has Delaney Scully, Madison Munley, Anna Terwilliger and Allison Hauck returning. “We have a strong team returning next year.  I’m excited about what the future holds for the Lady Irish basketball team.”
